We’ve all been there. Honestly, every single one of us. Life has a way of taking over — summer holidays, kids off school, family days away, nights out, or even just a week where the scales show a gain and we can’t quite face going back. One week slips into two, then a few more, and before we know it, months have passed. And during that time away? We often talk ourselves into all sorts of things: “Sure, a week or two won’t do me any harm. I deserve a break.” “I’ll eat and drink what I want, and I’ll easily get back on track at home.” “I’ll lose a few pounds before I go back — then I’ll return.” Oh, the irony! We end up giving ourselves a harder time, struggling to get back into routine, and punishing ourselves for being human. But here’s the truth: group isn’t about guilt, punishment or shame. It’s about compassion, laughter and encouragement. It’s walking into a room where you’ll find friendly faces, motivation, and — let’s be honest — a consultant who is just so glad to see you. Group is YOUR safe place. Life happens 💙 Sometimes we’re celebrating — weddings, christenings, birthdays, family get-togethers. Sometimes we’re hurting — sickness, bereavement, struggles with mental health. These are the real ups and downs of life. But when we stay away from group, we often make things harder for ourselves. We feel guilty on top of everything else. And here’s the reminder we all need: YOU ARE HUMAN. YOU ARE NORMAL . Forgiveness is the key. “Oops, I did it again…” Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could all just shrug and say, “Oops, I slipped up, I’m only human. Never mind — best get myself back to group where I’ll find the support I need.” But sometimes pride, guilt, or fear get in the way. We tell ourselves we should manage on our own. Yet the truth is — going it alone is harder. Group is where the magic happens. What can you do? Sometimes you just need to put on your big boy or big girl pants and send that message: “Help, I’m struggling.” And I promise you this — you will be welcomed back with open arms. That reflection — without beating ourselves up — is where the growth is. Always. 💕 Adrian Sarah’s Story 🌟 Sarah joined group just before summer and was flying — she’d lost over a stone and was feeling brilliant. Then came July… holidays with the kids, BBQs, ice creams on the beach, the odd glass (or two!) of wine in the evenings. She missed one week of group, then thought, “I’ll just go back next week.” But next week came and went. Then she told herself, “I’ll just lose a few pounds at home first before I face the scales again.” Cue a few more BBQs, a few more holidays, and suddenly it had been three whole months since she last set foot in group! When Sarah finally messaged her consultant, she sheepishly wrote: “I’m scared to come back — you’ll be so disappointed in me.” The reply? “Nonsense, I’ll just be delighted to see you again!” So back she came, a bit nervous but also relieved. And you know what she said after Image Therapy that night? “Why on earth did I wait so long?! This is exactly what I needed. Everyone’s been there, and nobody cared about the gain — they just cared that I was back.” Now Sarah laughs about it, saying her only regret was not walking back through those doors sooner.

Every now and then, a member comes along who truly lights up the room – and for our group, that’s John! 🌟 John first joined Adrian's Slimming World back when he was running groups at Belvoir Park Golf Club . From the very beginning, he threw himself not just into his own journey, but into helping others too. He became an active member of our Social Team , arriving early every week to help set up the room, welcome members at the pay desk, and make everyone feel at home. His bubbly, jolly, and upbeat attitude was infectious – the sort of energy that lifts the whole group. But John’s contribution didn’t stop there. He regularly shared his food and snack ideas , and soon after, he discovered a brand-new passion – running . His enthusiasm for this new hobby inspired others to try it too, encouraging members not just to stay on plan, but to give Body Magic a go. (For those who don’t know – Body Magic is Slimming World’s way of celebrating every step of physical activity, from short walks to marathons, as part of your weight loss and wellbeing journey 🏅). John has now smashed through his Platinum Body Magic award with his weekly Parkruns, regular training, and commitment to staying active. And while he’s out there speeding ahead, the rest of us are cheering him on – from waybehind! (Go on John, save some energy for us at the back! 😂). John’s warm heart, non-judgemental encouragement, and friendly advice have helped so many members on their own journeys. He’s living proof of how powerful Slimming World’s food optimising and Body Magic can be when you embrace it fully – not to mention the support you get (and give) in group each week. When you first meet Ruth , you’re instantly struck by her bubbly personality, infectious laugh and warm smile. But what makes Ruth truly inspiring is her incredible journey – she’s lost over 7 stone with Slimming World and, in her own words, she’s completely changed her life. Ruth is now proudly at Target , and she shows every week in our Castlereagh Evening group that slimming success is all about balance and enjoying life. Having been through the journey herself, Ruth knows just how much every single pound lost means. She’s ably supported on the weigh desk by her lovely sister Colette (another inspiration!) and her niece Tatyana – together they all make quite the dream team. Beyond Slimming World, Ruth is a talented businesswoman, running Salon One – Luxury Nails in Castlereagh 💅. Many of our members proudly sport Ruth’s stunning nail designs, showing off her creativity and flair. And let’s not forget Ruth’s love for holidays ☀️✈️ – she travels abroad a few times each year, soaking up the sun and the sights. Even after a trip away, Ruth hops back on the scales, and if there’s been a little gain, she’s straight back on track. That determination and dedication is what has kept her in Target and what makes her such a role model in group. Ruth’s advice to new members? Aim for small goals – they all add up. Woman of the Year in group is such a special time for us 💖. It’s our chance to shine a big, bright spotlight on everything that makes our women amazing. I can’t stop munching apples!” 😂 But when it comes to alcohol? That’s a different story. We often don’t associate drinks with weight gain because… well, they’re liquid! How bad can they be? Turns out – very. The issue isn’t just the alcohol itself, but: The volume we drink The type of alcohol we choose And the temptations that come with it – late-night nibbles, dodgy food choices, and next-day greasy cures. You may start out with a simple plan for one or two drinks… but suddenly it’s a bottle (or two), the takeaway menu is out, and the next morning you’re elbow-deep in a sausage roll. Sound familiar? 🥂 Wine, Fizz, and Glass Size Reality Checks Let’s talk wine – whether it’s white, red, rosé, Prosecco, Cava, or Champagne, it all counts. Sure, one glass might be around 6 syns … but let’s be honest, when’s the last time we stopped at one glass? That “just a wee bottle of wine” is actually 30 to 40 syns depending on strength. And here’s the kicker: A large glass of wine is 250ml – that’s a third of a bottle. Just 3 glasses = the whole bottle. 😳 And when you’re pouring at home – be honest – are you really measuring that 250ml, or is it more a case of “fill ‘er up and we’ll call it one glass”? 😆 🍻 Beer, Lager, and Cider – The Volume Game One pint of beer, lager, or cider can be 10+ syns . Now imagine four pints – that’s over 40 syns in liquid alone! Add in the usual suspects – pizza, crisps, kebabs – and the damage stacks up quicker than you can say “last orders”. 🍹 Cocktails & Shots – The Silent Syn Bombs Cocktails might look cute in their fancy glasses, but they’re little syn grenades. Most contain multiple spirits, liqueurs, fruit juice, syrups, and even cream – yikes! You could be sipping 15 syns without blinking. And that’s just your starter drink before moving onto wine or beer? Uh-oh… 🍸 Spirits – The Smarter Swap Not all drinks are created equal. A 35ml gin or vodka with diet mixer is a smarter choice at around 3.5/4 syns . If you keep it measured and stick to slimline mixers, you’re on the right track! 🙌 💡 Try a white wine spritzer with diet lemonade – doubles the volume, halves the trouble! 🧠 But Why Is Alcohol So Calorific? Alcohol is packed with empty calories – it offers no nutritional benefit, just sugar and ethanol, both of which are burned before fat. That means your body stops burning fat while it’s clearing the alcohol – a real metabolic queue jumper! And that’s before we even factor in mixers, cream, syrups, and food choices made under the influence 🫣 🤯 What About “Saving My Syns”? We all think we’re clever – “I’ll just save up my syns and go wild at the weekend!” But here’s the truth: Saving syns doesn’t work . Why? Because the second we give ourselves that permission slip, it’s game on – bottle of wine ✅, Indian takeaway ✅, slice of cake ✅. That’s your week’s syns… gone. And it’s only Friday. 🚗 Real Talk: It’s About Choice Yes, you’re an adult and you can do what you want. But here are a few ideas to help you drink smart and still see results: Be the designated driver (your mates will thank you and so will your waistline) Measure your drinks – no guessing! Choose lighter options – swap Cider/wine for Bacardi and Diet Coke or go for slimline mixers Make low-syn snacks for post-drinking munchies Decide before you go out what you’ll drink and how much Wine spritzer = smart spritzer 🍷➕🥤 Avoid rounds! They’re peer pressure with a price tag 😅 But I Love My Wine… Quote from Adrians: "So do many of us! I personally love an Aperol Spritz now and then 🍊 But I also lost 5 stone while still socialising every week. I swapped from cider to Bacardi and Diet Coke, and when my friends were queuing for cheesy chips at the chippy van, I was off to the 24-hour service station for some lean ham and cold chicken. Did I miss out? No. Did I lose weight? YES!" 🤯 The Slippery Slope of “One More” We never plan to drink too much. But one leads to another, and soon we’re saying “Oh, the bar’s closing, better get in a double round!” – sound familiar, Northern Ireland? 🙈 It’s a cultural thing, but also a learned behaviour. And what’s learned can be unlearned. 🦠 Blame It on the Pandemic? Many of us slipped into weeknight drinking during lockdown. No commute, no early alarms, just a glass to unwind. It became habit. But habits can change. You are in control of your choices now. 🧡 And Finally: It’s Not Your Fault If you’ve fallen into this spiral of drink ➡️ food ➡️ hangover ➡️ regret ➡️ repeat – please know, it’s not your fault. Hey there, fabulous Target members! 🌟 First of all, MASSIVE congratulations on reaching your personal target weight – what an incredible achievement and one that you should be so proud of. 🎉💪 Whether you’re freshly at target or have been there a while, you’re an inspiration to so many, and your presence in group means the world to me and everyone around you. Let’s talk about what being a Target member really means and some friendly reminders around the Slimming World rules and your target journey. It’s not just about staying free – it’s about staying focused, honest, and proud. ❤️ 🎯 Your Personal Target – Set by YOU Your target weight is yours to set. It’s what you feel good and healthy at. You can change it any time, but here’s the important bit: ➡️ Any change must be at least 7lbs above or below your current target. This keeps the focus on meaningful, intentional change – not just a little tweak to dodge the rules! 📏 Your Target Range – A Bit of Wiggle Room You’ve got a lovely little cushion to live your life in – 3lbs either side of your target weight. That means: ✅ You can weigh up to 3lbs below or above your set target ✅ While in range, you remain FREE ✅ No need to book holidays if you’re in range ✅ You’re welcome to group as much or as little as suits you Enjoy the freedom – you’ve earned it! 😬 What If You Pop Outside That Range? We all have those weeks, and that’s okay! If your weight goes outside the 3lb range , you get one free grace week to gently guide yourself back on plan. That means: 📌 Week 1 (following week): No charge – if back into target range. If not I'm afraid you will need to return to the pay station. 📌 Week 2 (if still out of range): You’ll become a full paying member again until you’re back within target range 📌 You’ll also need to book holidays again while you’re out of range This isn’t a punishment – it’s simply helping you get back on track and stay in control. 🛤️ ✅ Do I Need to Weigh Every Week? You don’t have to weigh every week – it’s totally up to you. But here’s my top tip: 👉 In the early days of Target, regular weigh-ins (weekly, fortnightly, monthly) help you learn how to maintain your success. 👉 If you pop out of target , it’s essential to weigh in the following week – otherwise you may incur a back-fee if you’re still out and haven’t shown up. So be kind to yourself – keep that accountability and use the scales as your friend, not your enemy. ⚖️ 🏃♀️ Must I Weigh If I Come to Group? Yes – even as a Target member, if you’re physically in group , you’ll need to step on those scales. No sneaky exits! 😅 The scales are part of your journey – they help you maintain, not punish. And you never know who your weigh-in might inspire. ✨ 🙈 Can I ‘Fool the Scales’ Just This Once? Let’s talk honesty… kindly but clearly. 💬 Wearing your jumper, stuffing your pockets, or weighing in boots (during the summer) to stay “in range” might seem clever in the moment… But deep down, we both know that’s just tricking yourself. 🙃 Honesty is key. Be proud, be consistent, and be real. If you’re out of range, it’s okay – own it, pay your out of range fee, and get right back on plan. That’s what real success looks like. 💥 📲 Do I still have access to the Slimming World App? Absolutely, the App is yours to help keep you within your target range, long-term. However in order to keep the app live you will need to pop into group and get weighted a minimum of once every 6 weeks. After 6 weeks of non-attendance, your app will not let you log in. When you return to group again, the app will reactivate your account automatically. 💬 You’re SO Important to Group Target members aren’t just free – you’re vital. Your stories, your tips, your wisdom… they lift others up. That’s why we welcome you with open arms (and a free seat!) each and every week. As we celebrated 10 amazing years of me being your Consultant 🥹 and proudly brought home our Gold Award from the Slimming World Oscars 🏆💛, we also held a wee fundraiser for our group charity – Stroke Association NI 💜 Thanks to your generosity, we raised £100 yesterday alone! 🙌👏 Our charity box is now almost full 💰📦 and our current total raised (before adding yesterday’s amount) stands at £1,700 for this incredible cause. What. A. Night. 💫 The Slimming World Oscars was nothing short of incredible – a sparkling celebration of everything we do in our wonderful Castlereagh groups and beyond 💕. From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel truly special 💛 and so honoured to be recognised for the amazing journeys we’re all on together. The day kicked off with a rehearsal in the early afternoon – a wee practice to avoid any dramatic trips on stage (though I’m sure I could’ve styled it out! 😂). That’s where I met my fabulous Oscars partner – 41R – while I was 41L, which meant we’d take to the stage side-by-side.🎭✨ Then came the first glass of fizz 🥂 (okay, maybe the first of many) at the glamorous reception. Awards collected, smiles wide, and even a professional photo taken 📸 – keep your eyes peeled for that one soon! Of course, a wee bite was needed before the main event, so off I went to Harvey Nics for a light lunch and… yes, a few more bubbles 🍾😉. Then back to the hotel for outfit number two – time to sparkle for the evening gala! On arrival, another glass of fizz (feeling fabulously fizzy by this point 😅) welcomed us before the curtain lifted on the main event. And what an opening – stunning, dramatic music set the tone as we celebrated 55 glorious years of Slimming World magic ✨🎶. The awards began and before I knew it, I was walking through the shimmering red star ⭐️ and standing proudly on stage as a newly crowned Gold Consultant 🥇💛. It was surreal, emotional, and an unforgettable moment I’ll always treasure. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during the beautiful and heartfelt tribute to our late founder, Margaret Miles-Bramwell 💔🌹 – her passion and legacy will forever live on in the heart of every group and every member. Dinner followed – and my veggie dish? Delish! 🥗😍 The fizz kept flowing, and just when you thought it couldn’t get more magical… the stars arrived 🌟. Yes, we were treated to sensational performances from the West End cast of Tina the Musical and Wicked! 🎤🎭 The night ended dancing away with my lovely District Manager, and her fabulous husband💃 – with laughter, fizz, and a heart full of joy. We wrapped up at about 3am (yes, I was still standing! 😂) and I headed to bed for a well-earned rest 😴. 💫 What an unforgettable day. What an incredible company. And what a privilege it is to be part of something that recognises the heart and soul we pour into every week, for every member – no matter how big or small the success ❤️.
